Downturn puts a third of UAE projects on hold!

Report shows more than 800 developments in the region have stalled owing to the recession

Almost a third of civil construction projects in the United Arab Emirates are on hold owing to the downturn, a study has found.

Research by the UAE-based company Proleads Global revealed that 842 civil projects out of a total of 2,552 had been put on hold, and more than 100 had been cancelled altogether.

However, developments worth a total of £368bn were still active in the UAE, the report said.

The research was carried out on behalf of CityBuild Abu Dhabi, a new trade show for the region's construction industry which opened yesterday.
