Creation Date: Tue, 06 Oct 2009 GMT NEW JOB ADS RISE AGAINNew job ads on seek.com.au have risen for the third month in a row, providing further evidence that the Australian labour market is stabilising. SEEK Employment Managing Director Joe Powell said "the figures are encouraging, but as they are on the back of a sustained slump, we maintain a cautious view of the employment market's recovery." "For three months now we've seen growth in the number of new job ads and stabilisation in the SEEK Employment Index (SEI)." "While we're happy that new job ads are trending the right way, we must remember they were going the other way for nearly 12 months, so we'll be keeping a close eye on these figures over the coming months. However, this remains one of a number of signs that things maybe on the move - the employment market is traditionally quieter on the whole towards the end of the year but this is further positive news." Mr Powell said the SEI was a strong indicator of the health of the employment market as SEEK hosts approximately 60 per cent of all jobs on Australia's major job sites. However, Mr Powell said while there was another increase in ads, the market still remains tight. "The employment market for jobseekers continues to be competitive, despite the positive trend we're seeing develop in job ad volumes." "One thing that has remained constant over the past year is the importance for jobseekers to seek a competitive edge. The growth in SEEK Learning is testament to the fact many jobseekers are already aware of this."
