Principle Planning Legislation Review

In a media release issued on 12 July, the Minister outlined that the review of the Act will be comprised of three key stages:

Listening and scoping stage – to identify the key outcomes and principles for a new planning system. The preparation of Green Paper – outlining options in regard to the future planning system and the basis of a legislative scheme. A White Paper – setting out the Government’s new framework for the NSW Planning System, including the draft legislation.

The Minister wants all three stages of the review to be completed within 18 months.

The review of the Act will be driven by a dedicated Review Panel, jointly Chaired by The Hon Tim Moore and The Hon Ron Dyer. Mr Moore was a former Liberal Minister and current Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court, while Mr Dyer is a former Labor Minister.

The ‘listening and scoping’ stage of the Act review was kick-started on Friday 22 July with the running of a stakeholder forum attended by over 200 local government, state government, community and industry representatives.

Although an important first step, this forum did not shed any light on the process of the review - important details of the review framework, including the review’s Terms of Reference, the remaining members of the Review Panel and submission requirements have yet to be announced.

The Minister indicated that more information would be forthcoming and that a dedicated review webpage was being established to ensure that all information pertaining to the review was readily accessible.
